Sad to say, our summer was not as busy as in the past. While we find ourselves with a bit more time on our hands, we do miss seeing our boys play baseball. Wes called it quits after the spring season at Hebron while Paul made the call as the summer season was nearing its end.
Paul also played 7-on-7 football for the first time this summer. His team comprised of a group of boys from his middle school - Killian. They boys participated in about 5 one day tournaments followed by a state tournament. 7-on-7 is basically touch football with no linemen - QB and receivers against linebackers and defensive backs. There is no rushing but the QB has only 4 seconds to throw the ball. The boys had a blast learning this new format - competing very well and coming in 4th in the state tournament.
Wes also participated in 7-on-7 with is high school - Hebron. However, most of his summer was occupied with morning workouts for football and evening track practice. Thank goodness he can now drive. Friday was the day for 7-on-7 while Saturday was set aside for track meets. Wes also began some private lessons to help him improve his speed and power with LoRenzo Daniel, a former 200M NCAA Champion for Mississippi State.
The summer culminated with a trip to the "Game of Texas" where Wes' 4x100 and 4x400 teams competed in the 18u age group - they came in first at the regional qualifying meet. We expected the 4x400 team to compete strongly but the boys just did not have the legs needed to keep up - it was the last event of the meet. However, Wes got some hardware when his 4x100 ran their best time in the season coming in second to a very fast team from Garland.
